Rumah Seri Kenagan (12th Mile Old Folks Home)

The month of May we have a lot to celebrate, first we celebrate Wesak Day, then we celebrate Mother’s Day, and then we also celebrate Harvest Day (Gawai) on the 1st of July. Haven’t visit the senior people for long time, so we had organize a visitation to the home. This time I want to do it a little bit different, so I bring along a nurse with me to help check the blood pressure for the senior people, we also help them cut finger nails, and free hair cut. But the hair cut business is 0, cause most of the grandpa and grandma have only a few hair :P

Just when we arrive, another group of charity team was there, and it was my old friend the Macho Boon. The person in charge told me that he had forgot that we’ll be going on that evening, so he also approve the visitation for the other group. But since is for charity, so we all say that we combine together, and let the senior people to have a unforgettable festive season.

We stated out by the person in charge introducing us to the senior people, then we go give opening speech (without any preparation). After that we invite the senior people to cut the belated mother’s day cake. The cake was too big, so there is some left over. Follow by that, we give each and everyone of them biscuit, cookies, drinks, and fruits. While the senior people are eating, I’ve invited my very talented buddy Lenny to sing for them. After singing, we open our finger nail cutting stall, barber stall, and check blood pressure stall. The bronze medal goes to barber stall with 0 customer, the silver medal goes to the manicure and pedicure stall with a few customer, and the gold medal goes to the blood pressure stall, sapu almost 70% of the senior people (I’ve also go and check for my own). The nurse is very kind, and I got her number. Being a nurse is not an easy task either, you have to know how to communicate with the senior people, some of the I even don’t understand what are they saying.

The senior people at the home are very pity, some of them have unhealthy health condition, but according to the senior people the home only ask the doctor to come once a month. Hope there will be some improvement here. But the good news is that there is one grandma and one grandpa, and they meet at the home, fall in luv and get married. Aw~~~ that’s the sweetest thing, bless them with good health, and happy always. We also let the Buddhism grandpa and grandma to chant mantra with us, and bath the little Buddha. They are all very happy, and keep on thanking us. And once again, no mater how hot is the weather, no mater how heavy is the water, no mater how far is the old folks home, no mater how expensive the petrol is, no mater how malu we have to go to ask for donation, but when you see the smile on the senior people face, is all worth it.

A Night Of Sacred Music @ Ching Kwong Methodist Church

I never know that Beethoven’s music is sacred music not until last week when I went to the Methodist church with my musical friends. The entrance ticket cost RM20, we have to sit at the middle seats. That night, the church had invited experience sacred singer from around Malaysia, and choir from Singapore. This is the first time that I had ever went to enjoy a choir with soprano, alto, tenor and bass singers. It was quite a good experience, and I had gain much knowledge on sacred music.

Some of the choir are Mozart’s Taudamus Te, Laudate Domunum, Handel’s - Judas Maccabaeus, Messiah, Haydn’s – The Creation, Morzard’s – Requiem, Mendelssohn’s – Elijah, Beethoven’s Mass in C and many more. When the soprano and tenor sings, notice they don’t use mic, but their voice even can be hear clearly.

And the name of the choir is called “Yin Qi Choir” according to the introduction, their objective is to serve jesus Christ and Saviour through music, and to promote church music at its best , and to provided a good musical environment. Hm~~maybe next time I can also setup a choir for my Buddhist association, and do a charity thing, raise money and help the unfortunate people. In my team I have a very experience music conductor, and he had given the green light to teach us. Not a bad idea.

Welcome to the Ching Kwong Methodist Church my friend :)

the Entrance Ticket RM20, though I don’t really understand the music, but is worth the money.

The conductor’s name is called Elaine Pao, she went to West minister Choir college in Princeton, NJ, USA, and was major in Piano. For me I think that people who knows how to play piano is very clever and talented. Just like the Taiwan singer Jay Chow.

The soprano Miss Angela Chock.

The second last song. Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Lord God of Abraham, and O rest in the Lord.
This is the music video that I’ve shoot during the performance.

Evening walk @ friendship park

Off work early today, plan to take a nap. But my head is aching, so I skip napping and went to friendship park for a evening walk. I pack up my camera and head to friendship park, is a 10 mins walk to the park from the place I live. On my way to the park, I took a lot of photos. This half year my enthusiasm of taking photo had drop a lot.

I need exercise, few month ago I went to donate blood. The doctor told me that my blood pressure is not healthy on a age like this. So I went to see the Chinese physician acupuncturist and herbalist doctor. After the checkup, the doctor told me to sleep early, eat more vegetable or fruits, and give myself less pressure. So start from that day I try very hard to change my sleeping time, and eating habit. Two month later I went back to let the doctor check again, and this time improvement, and I’ve successfully donated my first pack of 0 positive blood.

Evening after work time, it always give me a very relax feeling. Gentle breeze blowing on my face, I took a deeeeeep breath, and exhale. My headache was gone, I’m not tired anymore.

Wilson and Wesak Day 2007

Wesak day, is the day to celebrate Buddha birth, and death. I receive a phone call on that early morning, it was a morning call. I then hurry get myself ready, and went to the Buddhist temple with my friends. We need to help out at the temple, there will be VIP arriving later to organize the opening ceremony. After waiting for their arrival, they then like usual, give speech, applause, opening rite, and etc. After finish all of this, is then bath the little Buddha. The temple was so crowded, and the queue was so long. I barely wait for my turn to bath the Buddha. My leg feel numb, I stand too long, when finally my turn, is very hard for me to walk and knee down. After finish bathing the little Buddha, I follow my friends to the dinning hall for lunch. No doubt, is vegetarian food. I had a vegetarian curry, and Chinese tea.

This year one of my friend is a teacher from the secondary school, and he suppose to lead his school team on the street parade for wesak day, but he cannot make it. He asked me to take over his place, he told me it will be a very easy talk, just need to walk with the students and make sure they are safe, that’s all. So I accept the job, but thing is not as easy that it sounds. The students are very playful, and some don’t want to listen to order. I have to make sure the team was in line, their lotus lantern is lit on, they have enough water to drink, they don’t play around. It not easy to be a teacher, I have to keep an eyes on all of this little monkey until I don’t have time to see other pretty girls along the way when we start the parade. Next year I don’t want to look take this offer anymore, I’m tired, thirsty, hungry. But over all, it was a fun wesak parade, the students do give their respect, and though we don’t win the first place, but we did win the fourth place.

After the parade, I follow the students back to the school by using school bus. They give me a bun to eat, and I tell you though it was just a simple bun, but that bun taste like the most delicious bun in the world.

wesak_08
The time was 7.15pm, with the full moon, the lotus, the people, the night sky, and the Kuching council building. It had made a perfect scene for photography.

wesak_09
We start out very smoothly, everyone was in line, and the discipline is good.

wesak_10
along the way, I get all kinds of complains. Teacher my leg is aching, I’m thirsty, I’m hungry, my candle has no light, I feel tired, bla bla bla…oh my head is aching

wesak_11
it took almost three to four hours to finish the whole parade, then we wait patiently for the judge to announce the winner.

wesak_12
I’m inside the school bus with the students. Have to make sure all the students are in the bus. Their parents went to the school to pick them up, I have to make sure everyone of them is back before I can go back. And when I reach home, it was nearly 2am. What a wonderful day.
