Old Folks Home Pre-Xmas Visitation

Is been a while since we our last visit to the 12th mile old folks home aka Rumah Sri Kenangan. Christmas is just around the corner, so this time we bought some cookies, seedless grapes, bananas, water melon, malt, sweets, and more. We start our journey at 2pm, the sky was pouring heavy rain. So we drive very slow, when we reach the place. We bring all the food to the kitchen, here they will have their tea break at 3pm. So we quickly prepare the fruits and cookies for them. The kitchen auntie will inform all the senior people that is time for tea, and all of them will come to the hall and eat. There’s a stage inside the hall, and is well decorated with Christmas trees, present, and Christmas greeting.

The food must all be halal, so halal is an Arabic term designating any object or an action which is permissible to use or engage in, according to Islamic law and custom. One of my friend had dress up like a Santa Claus *ho ho ho* he is fat enough though. So we also use this opportunity to take photo with the senior people, some of them are shy to take photos, but some of them like it. Is very fun to see how they react in front of the camera.

Some of the senior people cannot walk, or is sick. We need to take the food to them at their ward. Most of them are female, they are happy to see visitor, cause here seldom have visitor. They shake Santa’s hand, and thank him for coming. *ho ho ho* So the visitation ends around 3.30pm, by that time the rain had stop. We clean up the rubbish, pack our things, and say good bye to the senior people. Merry Christmas everyone :)

Visitation to The Pithcher Plant & Wild Orchid Garden

This garden is situated at before the entrance to the 10th Mile Padawan town, Kuching. From Kuching, is about 30 minutes of car drive. I went there with a few of my friends just before we head home from Padawan district.

This garden was constructed in the middle of 2001, and for local we have to pay RM2 to enter, and for tourist is RM10. By the time we’re there, it almost reaches its closing time 4pm. Quickly, we went in to look around.

Very proud to say that at Sarawak there are rich variety of pitcher plants or Nepenthes (scientific name). According to what I know, there are more than 27 types of pitcher plant species been recorded in the island of Borneo. At the garden here, besides pitcher plants, we also see a collection of wild orchid. Well, these wild orchids are really beautiful and enchanting, but I’m not a big fan of flowers. I just take as many photos as I can. A number of these wild orchids to be found here are like Aerides, Arundina, Calanthe, Cymbidium, Dendrobium, and Vandas.

One thing should keep in mind is that when you visit this garden, remember to put some insect repellence. I’m been bitten by hundreds mosquito. Scary~~~
