On a raining day, there is no point for us to hike a few
hours to the summit and in the end, not being able to enjoy the view. Most of
the view will be heavily cover by fog that time.
I will not recommend you to hike on a trail which require
you to cross over a stream, flash flood usually occur during this time.
Riverside trail, waterfall trail is good choice, the water
volume will increase hence greater the view.
Forest hike will give you breathtakingly view when the fog
comes.
02.CHOOSE THE RIGHT CLOTHES
layers that keep you warm even if you do happen to get wet,
starting closest to your skin and working out:
·Non-cotton underwear
·Non-cotton long underwear
·Non-cotton insulating layer
·Waterproof shell layer
·Wear a kampung addidas, it’s a Borneo local
folks plastic shoes, which they use for farming. Its good to use on a raining
day, or on a waterfall hike, don’t have to worry about getting wet.
03.CHOOSE THE RIGHT GEAR
Use trekking poles when hiking in the rain, this will be
great for balance, crossing streams, and brooks and going up and down hills.
Use self-locking plastic bags to keep such items as lighter,
food, camera, first aid kit, books, maps, journal, and mobile phone dry.
Use waterproof stuff sacks for your gear, especially
clothing. Use them in different colours to indicate what type of gear is in
each.
04.FOOD AND WATER PREPARATION
Bring food that can eat on the go like cereal bar, chocolate
bar, keep snacks handy in your larger exterior pockets, for easy to access.
Drink from a water bladder, so you can have food and water
on demand. No hassles on cooking the food, or getting that hard to reach bottle
out from backpack.
You will need your energy while hiking in the rain. Body and
outside temperatures changes require more energy while hiking and staying warm.
05.KEEPING YOUR STUFF DRY
Make sure your backpack comes with a rain cover, if not
always carry a big black plastic garbage bag to put all your dry clothes in.
If
you have extra cash to spare, you can get a quality dry bag, always put your
gear inside your daypack in dry bags, pouches or ziplocks.
Sometime we need a few hours to hike to the mount summit, or to a certain check point, so along the way its always good that someone that can cause amusement or laughter to the team, especially a story with a funny punchline, in our group we have a lot of people who do that, and it makes the journey even more fun.
On a camping trip, food plays an important role it not just give us energy, it also unit us together. In a group, there is always that someone who knows how to cook, who owns the practice or skill of preparing food by combining, mixing, and heating ingredients. For me who don't own that skills, its a blessing that my friend can cook, so my job is to help finished the food that my friend cooked.
Bonding
The more you get together with a bunch of friends the more you will feel the close bond between each other. For me I always feel a close friendship that develops between my buddies, often as a result of shared experiences.
This is Kampung Kidding, a remote village with more than 3 hours of hike. It was my first time visit the place, and I don't have enough food and water. My friends are kind enough to share food and water with me to make sure that I have enough energy to finish this exploration, and to reach the waterfall. So its good to hike with a team that will always look each other back.
When we hike to a new place, we will need to hire local guide, sometime even porter. Due to the rough terrain, some of the expenses is not cheap. Good to have a team to share the expenses together, so we can lighten our burden, instead of paying all the expenses by yourself.
We camp at the Santubong Moun valley, beside our camp side there is a stream with crystal clear water. We camp there regularly, and we like it very much. Everytime after we finish our dinner, we will go and dip in the stream. Its fun to have night swim together with friends.
We are at Mount Murud, the highest mount in Sarawak, Borneo. Its a hike which last us for 3 days. Its very difficult to access this place, with all the rough terrain, muddy trail, and humid mossy forest. Good thing that we are in a group, and we motivate each other, when we are tired, we rest together, share a cup of hot drinks and off we go again.
In Sarawak, we have a lot of waterfall, countless waterfall waiting to be discover. And in a team, we can share the location on the waterfall that we visit before, and visit that place together.
My team and I was on a 3 hours hike, after we reached the summit we spend too much time on the summit and by the time we knew it, it’s already dark. Some of us have headlight, some of us don’t. So the one with light walk first, and we follow at the back.
Mother Nature creates the most beautiful art, and we must go for that extra mile to enjoy it. If you go alone, you will be demotivated. That is why is good to have a team that can always motivate each other, and when that moment arrive, we witness the art of nature together, magical experience.
When we are in the jungle, we can only depend on our teammate to help us in case of emergency. If one of us are injurt, the other one will help to carry the heavy backpack, the water bottle, the food, and to give a shoulder to lean on for a rest. Teamwork make things happen!!!
Explore and enjoy the adventure together as a team, and we can concur any mountain, swim in any stream, exploring any waterfall, and camp in any jungle condition.
所谓团结就是力量,一起时大家就有能力征服高山,探索瀑布,在任何艰难的环境下露营。
