Browsing through my photo archive last night, I found these few photos of India Street. I was there a few weeks ago with my friend. India Street derives its name from the fact that it has always been occupied by Indian shops. Most of the merchants are from southern and northern India. At first, it was called Kling Street in the 1850s, but the Third White Rajah of Sarawak, Sir Charles Vyner Brooke, changed the name to India Street in 1928. Later, in 1992, India Street was closed to vehicular traffic and converted into a pedestrian mall.
