Our journey began at Kinabalu Park, the iconic starting point for those venturing to climb Mount Kinabalu. We were at Timpohon Gate, a place bustling with activity, yet what truly captured our attention was the lively presence of its resident wildlife. We were surrounded by countless squirrels, darting energetically across the trees and even scampering along the ground.
These weren't just any squirrels; they are the famous Bornean Mountain Ground Squirrels, known for their charming, fearless nature. They are a common sight in this part of the park, and their comfort around humans is truly remarkable. As we offered them crackers, they displayed an endearing grace, using their delicate forepaws to hold the food before stuffing it into their tiny mouths. Their bold and trusting demeanor made for a truly unforgettable wildlife encounter, adding a special touch to the start of our adventure in this stunning natural paradise.

This is the Kinabalu Park, the starting point to climb the mount Kinabalu, this place is called Timpohom lodge. And surprisingly a lot of squirrels running around asking for food.

They are all over the trees...

They are so cute then we feed then crackers, they use their two tiny hands holding the food, and stuff into their tiny mouth. And are not afraid of human at all :O
