Five Days at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Ate noodles most of the time

I spend a total of 5 days at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Not for holiday but work, so no sightseeing, no visit to island, no Mount Kinabalu, no hot chicks, just eat, talk to people, eat again, and talk to people again. My friend bring me to this “Foh Chuan Restaurant” here is famous of the roasted meat, and the noodles. I’ve tried the noodles, and I like it. The girls that came to take our order looks same like the others in the restaurant, this might be operate by only one family. And they have really nice looking daughter.

The weather at Kota Kinabalu were warm, I went to a small town called Tuaran. A one hours of car drive from Kota Kinabalu town to Tuaran, most of the resident there are Malays and the natives people. After finish work, my friend introduces me to the famous Tuaran Noodles. “Bak Kut Teh King Restaurant” is one of the places that serve the best Tuaran Noodles. There are two type of flavor I can choose for, one are purely barbeque port meat, and one are mixed with steam chicken and port meat, I op for the mixed one. I don’t know what they put inside the noodles, but it really tasted good :)

Kota Kinabalu waterfront unlike Kuching waterfront where just serve some light food like french fried, teh tarik, or bugger. Here they have a lot tourist, the Kinabalu waterfront are build on top of the seaside, it has breeze constantly blowing, and the sound where the sea water hit the shore. Big screen projector to watch football, very good looking tourist, and locals. Nice cars parked outside the waterfront, some more we had to pay when enter the waterfront.

“Wan Wan Restaurant” is another restaurant which is famous for its unique fish made noodles, fish balls, and their home made chili. The Chili is damn hot and spicy, I can’t take spicy food, but again I don’t know what they put inside the chili, even a person like me would like to take this spicy chili. The main course is this very big bowl of fish soup, in the soup are fish made noodles, fish balls, and fresh fish meat. You can’t take away the chili, if you’ve finish yours, you can request for more.

My last day at Kota Kinabalu, just few hours before I board my plane back Kuching. I went to this “Jia Siang Restaurant”, most of the workers here are Philippines, but they can speck simple Malays. The famous dish here is the meat balls soup serves with soya noodles. And the soup goes well with their homemade chili, here unlike “Wan Wan Restaurant” the chili is for sales. I like the meat balls, it taste great.

Lunch @ Annalakshmi – The Culinary Arts Centre of The Temple of Fine Arts

01

In Annalakshmi, as the name goes—food is revered. Anna means “food” and Lakshmi is the presiding deity. So, the food served in Annalakshmi is “Prasad” - a sanctified offering. Almost all Annalakshmi outlets world over runs on this concept of “Eat as you want, Give as you Feel”. During my stay at Penang, I was fortunate enough to visit this place.

02

TFA means Temple of Fine Arts. They are a group of artistic and charitable organization dedicated to serving the society through arts, music and dance. And they has seldom been a fixed price for the show tickets.

03

So I’ve google on Annalakshmi, and Annalakshmi is the Hindu Goddess of Food and the adage "athithi devo bhava" meaning "the Guest is God" is the motivating factor.

04

Annalakshmi on the Swan has been a household name for more than a decade in India, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia. It is largely run through the work of voluntary staff that includes mothers and grandmothers all of whom know what it takes to prepare a wholesome meal with homely love.
It is guided by the inspiration of a monk, Swami Shantanand Saraswathi, disciple of Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh.

05

A Hindu monk once left the shores of India and founded the concept of Annalakshmi - The Indian Vegetarian Restaurant, in Malaysia.

06

From Malaysia, the concept of serving humanity through the arts spread to neighbouring Australia. Here on the banks of the Swan, Annalakshmi has found a new abode to serve the community.

07

Here at Annalakshmi, the food is prepared and served with love and the undiminished notion of service to humanity.

08

Volunteer staff strives to touch the hearts of our guests everyday. The Hindu monk behind the wonder that is Annalakshmi is Swami Shantanand Saraswathi (or Swamiji), who has inspired us to serve you our dear guests.

09

Through your generosity you not only give us the honour and privilege to serve you with the culinary and performing arts but also allow us to help the underprivileged in India via The Temple of Service, providing free food and medical services.

10

All of the food here are Vegetarian, and Annalakshmi is an international chain of vegetarian restaurants that augments its dining experience by showcasing Indian arts and handicrafts as well as cultural dance and music performances.

11

I like the food here, and the volunteer staff are friendly. When you’re at Penang, this is a place highly recommended for dinning.

To The Beach and Rain

”We still go to the beach?” I asked my friend once I’m in his car. I follow a group of friends to Sampadi Beach on the first of January. “Ya, still going :)” my friend answer me. Our destination is a open beach, it does not have beautiful resort, does not have toilet, does not have barbeque stand, does not have security guard, is just an open space. To get to the beach, need to pass by Matang, then cross a river by using a ferry. While crossing the river, the rain had stop. The win is strong and cold, can tell that a heavy rain is coming.

It tooks us about one hour to reach the beach, we unload all our drinks, chicken curry, lamb curry, eggs, chicken wing, fried noodles, junk food, and many more. The senior uncle and aunties, they start the fire for barbeque. While waiting, we all walk around the beach. The win is so strong that I had a feeling that I was going to blown away by it. The rain start to drizzle, I feel cold and hungry. The beach is cover by coconut trees and pine trees. There is an almost collapse pavilion beside the beach, we put all our bags there. It only took the uncle and auntie half-an-hours to get the chicken and pork meet cook. This is the first time I’m having lunch on a drizzling, strong win environment. A very good experience, after finish lunch some of my friends go swimming. While some of us stay back to finish the food.

The tide is strong, and is quite danger actually. I took a lot of photos, and post it up here. Before we go home, we have a lucky draw game. I get number 11 which is a note pad, the first price is to get all the left over barbeque chicken wings, pork meet, instant noodles, junk food, and soft drink. This trip is fun, if the beach has more facilities like toilet, and bath room it will be better. I sleep at 9.00pm that night, tired.

beach_01
I was in my friend car, at the back seat. I was getting worried will the rain ever stop, will the sun come out today? I hope it will.

beach_02
crossing the Sampadi river, the beach is just 10 minutes drive after we cross the river, and the charges is RM1.00 per car to cross the river.

beach_03
Here we are, we have to unload all our food and drinks.

beach_04
The win is cold and strong, I should bring my jacket.

beach_05
The experience uncle and aunties are in charge of lunch, while we just wait for the food to be cook

beach_06
good progress, is very warm when stand near the fire.

beach_07
Beside coconut trees, there is also a lot of pine trees. Because this is an open space beach so no people take care of the beach, broken tree branches all over the place.

beach_08
It starts to rain again, the tide is strong because of the win. This is a nice place, it will be better if it have more facilities.
