Sibu, Sarikei trip - I miss my bed

Just came back from Sibu, and Sarikei. Now there’s only one word to describe “TIRED”. I hate to go to small town, but what to do, I need to eat, I need to pay my bills, I need to pay my loan, and I need money.

Is been raining since morning, and I was worried that my flight will delay on that morning. But luckily everything goes well, after 30 minutes later, I reach Sibu. And straight away follow my co-worker to Sarikei. There is no airport at Sarikei, so we go by land. In the car I had done my planning already, for tonight no choices as I need to had dinner with the management, but tomorrow morning, I can had my own meal. I want to eat the “kan pua” noodles, is too delicious.

Most of the people at Sibu, and Sarikei they speak the “foo chou” dialect, I’m not very good at foo chou, but at lest I can understand what they’re saying. For me I think foo chou is the hardest dialect to learn among all the Chinese dialect.

After a few days at Sarikei, finally my work is done. My company had book the last flight back to Kuching for me, and it was not good at all. The rain pour heavily, I worried that my flight might be cancel. Please let me go back, I miss my bed, and I don’t want to stay here another day. I start praying in the airport, until I hear the friendly announcement, *ding dong* calling for MH2719, from Sibu to Kuching. Please proceed to bla bla bla...*ding dong*. Oh thank god!!! I can go back.

While I was at Sibu airport, there are a lot of Malay people. Then I just remember that Hari Raya Qurban is just next month, and now most of them are going to Mekka for pilgrimage. I chat with the uncle sitting next to me, and he told me that he is a retire government servant. This is the first time he went to Mekka, and it cost him around 20k for the whole trip. The route is about 9 hours from Kuala Lumpur to Mekka. It will be good, cause when Raya Qurban it is a public holiday. Means I can zzzz at home =P

I was ordered to go to Sibu, and Sarikei

Need to board the ferry to cross the river, opposite is Sarikei.

So after the bridge is complete, will be more convenience, as no need to wait for the ferry.

Off duty for Christmas

My lunch, fried mee. The portion of large, but is cost very cheap.

my drink, white maize. My food and drink only cost me RM3.50, very cheap.

Perfect! At the back of the Inn I live, is a grave yard.

The next morning, search for “kan pua” noodle

The boss asked me “xia no miang?”, I reply “nu pung ngui kan pua shok wa.”

Hot Milo

and the boss had cook me a plate of “kan pua” just like what I ordered

The soup is free.

At Sibu airport was crowded with Malay friends.

All with the same destination, Mekka.

Finally I can go home.

Miri – Part Four of Six

My old buddy Wei Shian. Now he is working at Miri as a painting inspector, something to do with painting job. He told me that his job is very danger sometime, so that’s why there is not much people work in his field. He had a new house, and a new car at Miri…I’m so envy!!! That night he bring me to eat at Yong Lee coffee shop, when go Miri you must try the famous shell meat kuih tiao.

After my second round dinner, we chit-chat, talk some bullshit, see pretty girls, share some working experience. Then he knows I like to take photos, so he brings me to Canada Hill. On top of Canada Hill there is Grand Old Lady this is the first oil well in Malaysia, and now it had become an historic artifact.

On top of Canada Hill I can feel cool breeze blowing softly on my face. And I can also see the city night scene. Miri had really change a lot since the last time I visit, it had turn from an Oil Town to a Resort City.

Wei Shian even bring me to his new house, is situated near the Senadin residential area, that places is full of houses. I know he is tired, so after visiting his house, I went back to my hotel to let him rest early.

He told me he did eat well, did sleep well because of work pressure. Pity him :(

This is the place where Wei Shian usually had his dinner

Wei Shian help me took a photo of me and the clays turning the pole on the Grand Old Lady =)

Close up view on the clays, there are two on each side.

Imagine last time to get oil they have to manually turns it around and drill into the solid earth, is really a hard work.

This is another historical artifact which they use in the old days to drill petroleum

what is this??!! Illegal racing, no…is just a group of people riding their miri bike.

Miri night scene from the tallest point Canada Hill, you can see the entire town from here. Pity my camera is not capable of capturing a clear image, else it will be great to share it with you all.

Miri – Part Three of Six

Miri Marriott Resort & Mandara Spa

My friend bring me to a new resort at Miri called the Marriott Resort and Spa. Yet again this is another new development after Miri become City earlier this year. It has a huge and luxurious lobby, but one thing that I’m not satisfied with is that it had no air-conditioner or fan to keep people cool. At the corner of the resort there is a campaign going on, is the HOPT CAMPAIGN organize by the Malaysia AIDS foundation, I think is something like the Red Ribbon Gala. They raise money by selling merchandise like mug, handmade goodies, t-shirt, and donation. There is a big board that had many people signature on, I also sign my signature on the board…I mean my blog address =)

The lobby is at first floor, and the spa is at ground floor, is called the ”Mandara Spa”. We entered the spa to get some information. At the reception we are welcome by an Indonesian girl, once we entered I can smell the exotic aromas of spices and fragrant blooms, plus the gentle sound of music. Immediately it give me a very relax feeling. Every staff at Mandara Spa is from Bali, Indonesia. The message girl, the message oil, the herbals, the aromatherapy, the accessories, everything are imported from Bali, Indonesia. The price range is from RM75 to RM863, this is indeed a very suitable place to breakaway from the polluted city, with no computers, no bosses, no car, no customers, and no worries.

After the spa is the swimming pool, there is a small restaurant near the pool. That night there is a pool side party going on; most of them are western countries people. Wish I can join them; and they are having a lot of fun. We rest at the couch and enjoy the atmosphere, the moonlight. How I wish now I was on holiday, I almost feel asleep when I lying on the couch. Pity that night doesn’t have any twinkle little stars, after shooting some shots; we went back to the lobby again to get something to eat.

There is a cake house called the ”Borneo Baking Co” , is sells many type of cakes. Beside cakes it also sells tea leaf with a variety of flavors to choose for. We wonder around the stall and I had bought a cheese cake for my friend, Marriott resort is a wonderful place to come for holiday. After Marriott then is good bye to Jersey and her friend, I had a good time. I still have a second date with…

In the signboard there are two seahorses that represent Miri, please go left to the hotel lobby.

This water fountain is at the ground floor outside a very high class restaurant.

Mandara Spa with the tag line “You Deserve To Feel This Good”

Mandara is the 2004 SPAASIA CRYSTAL AWARD winner with the title Best Spa Group/Brand

I think this is the natural herbs that they use for aromatherapy

I keep on sniffing on this water, because I tough the fragrance smell is from here. But I’m wrong.

Jersey asking about the price, while the Bali girl listening.
